Context (Other owners)
The underside of the mount has had the name 'Nahmann' and date '1912'. It is possible therefore that this scarab came to Acworth via the notable collector and antiquities dealer Maurice Nahman. Nahman began operating out of Downtown Cairo, dealing in Egyptian antiquities sales in 1890, and his collections were sold from the 1920s onwards from his new gallery in Cairo, as well as Christies's sales in 1937 and 2004, and a sale held at the Hotel Drouot in Paris in 1953.
