Context (Analysis)
This item was examined in 2002 by Kristin Thompson of The Amarna Project, who made the following observations: 'The wig is similar to 3 or 4 pieces from the North House Dump. The shoulder is also somewhat like a curved, pleated piece found in that dump in 2002; that shoulder is on a larger scale. Possibly the two pieces belong to different figures in a group statue. There is a nearly identical shoulder and wig fragment in the Ashmolean.' She goes on to note: 'The left side of a tripartite wig survives, along with most of the left shoulder and the lower part of the neck with the left tendon, the inner end of the collarbone, and one horizontal wrinkle. The top of an Aten cartouche is present, running vertically on the arm. Part of a back pillar projects at an odd angle to the wig, looking off-center to the left.'

Context (Amendments / updates)
The original catalogue card entry did not describe the gender or the name of the sculpture. A later hand, possibly Aidan Dodson, added 'Seated statue of Akhenaten' to the catalogue card, but the publication lists the figure as female. This latter description has been added to the Description field.

Context (Other)
This relief is not listed as coming to the museum in the distribution list (see Bib), however its entry on p. 65 gives no institution, so it may have been assigned to MAA at a later date. The bibliographic reference was given in a later hand on the catalogue card.
