Description

Watercolour of excavation of kiln, giving elevation measurements. Handwritten label reads: "Plan of the Kiln found in Hils (?) field, near Ashdon".
'The kiln was found in 1852, and reported by R.C. Neville (Lord Braybrooke), in Arch. Journ. x (1853). Bartlow is on the Essex/Cambridgeshire border, and at times within parish of Ashdon, Essex but now part of Cambridgeshire.' [From notes field in record relating to 1948.1159]
