Description

Document - Notes on the Rymill Collection of Canadian Indian objects.
Loose-leaf paper of small notebook in envelope labelled "Catalog [sic], base I, Swan Lake, Bungay [sp?]"
Handwritten object notes with descriptions and a (collector?) number. Also includes (Canadian?) Indian stories and legends, written out by hand and possibly relating to objects within the collection.
The notebook's collector numbers are the only accession numbers listed in the actual material, but whoever catalogued this folio appears to have determined the corresponding MAA numbers are 1930.651-1115.

Description (CMS Description)
'Bungay' is the correct spelling of the group name and refers to an ethnonym that used to be used for Plains Ojibwe). The numbers on the notebook are Robert Rymill’s own code for cataloguing the objects in the field, and they relate to the MAA numbers 1930.651-1115. He assigned these numbers to the collection in 1930. The so-called “Indian stories and legends” are actually his brief fieldnotes. They include a list of Plains Cree terms for medicines which were acquired by Keevisk (sometimes spelled Keewist) who was from the File Hills in southern Saskatchewan included in the notebook, but this information is also on the artefact catalogue. On the reverse of many of the notebook pages is a listing of hotel reviews which Rymill compiled in the mid-1920s, also using a code, (some of which were very nice places!)
