The material in question was previously kept in the store of the then-School of Oriental Studies, where it remained as late as 1997, when Dr Musa Mohammed left Cambridge. At some point the material was transferred to another store where other archaeological collections not owned by the Department of Archaeology or the Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology were stored.

Papers relating to the 2023 transfer of material excavated in Darfur, Sudan by Dr Musa Mohammed in the late 1970s and early 1980s, to Deutsches Archäologisches Institut (DAI), Berlin for study, before being finally returned to Sudan.
