Context (Analysis)
In August 2011 Dr Val Attenbrow, Australian Museum, undertook pXRF of several Australian stone axes in MAA's collection (1952.57 C, D, E, G, I, L, N, P, Q and 1922.955). During this analysis the filter was out of alignment, which means while they can be analysed as a group, they cannot be compared against the basaltic source materials she had analysed. She plotted the results and noted that 'even though it was a really small sample, I thought the results were interesting. All the Sydney and Blue Mountains specimens clustered together, and the Narara (Gosford), Tallong (South Highlands) and Pokolbin (Hunter Valley) specimens were well spaced from them, as are the Bondi and Luddenham basalt source materials.'
