Description

Pen, pencil, and ink drawing drawn by A.C. Haddon while on the Torres Strait Expedition (1898). A photograph of an almost identical drawing, probably from Haddon's 1898 journal (p. 255), is in the Photographic Collection - P.790.ACH1. Drawing of a fenced open rectangular structure (kwod) with two openings; on some fence posts hand trumpet (bu) shells. In two parallel lines in the centre of the kwod, in line with the two openings, are shells, skulls and, at the top of one line a crocodile and at the top of the other, a hammer-head shark. To the left is another structure which has two long thatch roofs inside it. See also Doc. 147 and Doc. 276.
