Also includes a letter from G.T.Paton, British Consul, Tamsui, Formosa, 26.6.1929, to de Bunsen [presumably E.H de Bunsen, Consular Service, Japan], who was attempting to trace Ishii, whose only known details were DOB: 26.9..1879; Address: No. 4 Motodaikucho, Nihonbashi-ku, Tokyo; and who resigned his post in Formoa on August 1914 and 'nothing heard of him since'.
An accompanying letter, of the 30th July, ?to Paton and possibly from Ovens in Tokyo, suggests that Price 'told me that he was known as Seibin no Ishii' but that he had apparently confused him with 'Seibin no Mori'

Description (CMS Description)
The Folklore Society correspondence appears to concern the publication of Ishii's book, 'Formosan Tale's [?an informal title], and its current form in manuscript. With accompany a letter from Ishii, 30.5.1917. which refers to Dr Hildburgh's corrections of the MS and Hildburgh's desire to put his name as editor of the work. Ishii wrote that he would withdrew the work from publication through the Society if this was to be the case.
A further letter from F.A. Milne of the Folklore Society, 22.12.1917 suggests that they would be unable to publish it in the volumes of the Society for some time to come due to the rising costs of paper and printing. Subsequent letters from other publishers suggest that the MS remained unpublished in England.
A letter from James Frazer to Ishii, 4.3.1918, sympathises with Ishii and suggests that stories are offered to the Royal Anthropological Institute or the Transactions of the Japan Society, and asks him to make us of this letter an an introduction
