Description
Correspondence regarding between MAA and the National Museum of Man, Ottawa, re: Graham Rowley's Dorset Culture Collection.
a) Correspondence regarding MAA material donated by Isobel Hutchison after she bought it in Alaska. As it turns out, the Copper Eskimo costumes she bought were originally collected by Richard Finnie, who had collected them for the National Museum of Man, but had to be abandoned because the ship carrying them (the Baychimo) was caught in ice by Point Barrow, Alaska. Upon having heard this story, Peter Gathercole offered to return the objects and Barrie Reynolds of the National Museum offered an exchange of Eskimo soapstone sculptures.
b) A second series of correspondence, which seems to have been borne out of the above-namely requesting the transfer of the entire Rowley Pre-Dorset Collection from MAA to the National Museum of Man.
