CUMAA Exhibition: Print and attached text page exhibited in the Sapmi Display case with the following label: "1. Self-Representation: the 'Karesuando Lapps' display
In 1947 Mikel Utsi curated an exhibit of Sami artefacts in this gallery, as the Museum's displays were being reorganised after the disruption of the Second World War. Many of the artefacts had been collected by Mikel's wife Dr Ethel J. Lindgren, and drew on the couple's ongoing research in the Utsis' homeland of Karesuando. Someof these artefacts, which embodied intense personal connections between the curator and his sommunity, are still displayed today.
