Description (Physical description)
Bottle stopper (1584A). Thomas states the figure on top of the stopper is a beetle. It looks more like a chameleon however. Its surface is decorated with spots and it has webbed feet. The base of the stopper is profusely decorated with incisions, spots and stripes. Exquisite carving, much detail. The object is heavily used as it is worn and very smooth to the touch.
Information provided by Dr Ohioma Pogoson, Honorary Curator of the Museum of the Institute for African Studies, University of Ibadan, Nigeria. November 2012.
