Description (CMS Description)
Very large paddle club of heavy dark wood, kinikini (according to catalogue card) or culacula (Fiji project). Very large thin head. The surface of the head is not decorated but on the lower part, the edges are carved with triangular serrations and rectangular protrusion. The transition between the head and the handle is marked by a very thick and rounded horizontal ridge. The handle has a lozenge section. The butt is oval, convex and much wider in section. A thick cord of 3-ply plaited coir is attached around the handle. On one side, a large chunk of the head has been broken off. It has been replaced (or recreated?) with another type of wood and glued on the object. Several cracks have been repaired with three copper staples. The head is chipped and cracked all around.
