Catalogue card reads [stamped in black ink:] 'Z 3405 FIJI'. [typed:] 'Na Koro Vatu, Matai Lombau, Viti Levu, Tholo East province. Drinking cup for Kava of cocoanut, Type of ordinary Fijian drinking cup, made from a nut from Nairi Island, Viti Levu, was the one always used by the Baron A von Hugel. [stamped in black ink:] 'THE VON HÜGEL COLLECTION CIRCA 1875.' [in pencil in the bottom left corner:] '12/126'. [stamped in red ink:] 'CUMAA 12 AUG 1987 TRANSCRIBED'. [stamped in blue ink in the bottom right corner:] 'SHOW CASE NUMBER 12'. A round red sticker pasted on the card.

Description (CMS Description)
Large drinking cup for yaqona made from half a coconut shell. The surface is very polished and smooth inside with a bright yellow patina in places. The protruding bottom formed by the three ridges of the coconut shell is pierced (no cord). There are two horizontal hairline cracks on one side of the cup, 5 cm and 7.5 cm down from the lip (2.5 cm long and 3 cm long). On the outer surface, near the lip, 'Z.3405' and 'O.X.541.H.' inscribed in white ink. 'Z.3405' inscribed in white ink at the bottom of the cup. A small rectangular cream label pasted near the lip reads [printed in black ink:] '398'.
