Description (Physical description)
Circular priests' yaqona dish carved from a solid piece of dark vesi wood. Cylindrical pedestal base with 4 flat legs. A plaited coir cord (magimagi) is wrapped twice around top of base and knotted, with 2 plaited lengths hanging down. The lip is thick and concave, the lower part of which is serrated. Two oval holes have been cut in the platter and provided with high-rising lips. The dish resembles the wings of stylised duck-shaped dishes. Very slight evidence of patina on surface and only seen near edges. A large crack runs across the centre of the platter and there had been significant damage to one of the cut out holes. Traces of dried glue from previous repair visible [Lucie Carreau, 11/01/2012].
