Exhibited: On display in 'Buddha's Word: The Life of Books in Tibet and Beyond' from 28th May 2014 - 17th January 2015. Labelled as '8. Vasudhara / The Bodhisattva Vasudhara, or 'bearer of treasures' is / the goddess of wealth and particularly revered in Nepal. / She sits in the pose of 'royal ease', with left leg folded / under the body and right foot outstretched. She once / sat on a lotus throne, with the right foot resting on a / smaller lotus protruding from the pedestal. In many / aspects similar to White Tara, this figure holds a copy of / the Prajnaparamita, a rosary, jewels and corn signifying / abundance. Much of the gold leaf and all of the jewel / inlays have been removed, probably for reuse or sale. / Nepal. 18th century. / Donated by Lady Schuster. 1947.775'.

Description (Physical description)
Copper alloy, probably bronze figure of Vasudhara, otherwise called Guanyin. She is depicted in the pose of 'royal ease', with left leg folded under the body and right foot outstretched. She once sat on a lotus throne, with the right foot resting on a smaller lotus protruding from the pedestal [not present with the object]. This figure holds a copy of the Prajnaparamita, a rosary, jewels and corn, signifying abundance. Much of the gold leaf and all of the jewel inlays have been removed.
