Description

Large circular hat of finely plaited and coiled straw. It has a tall domed crown in the centre, with a plume of long cotton ribbons protruding in mostly red with some yellow, blue and black; the inside is hollow, with a round headband of fibre wrapped in black cotton. The brim is broad and circular, inverting slightly at the crown. The outer coil is falling off or detached in parts.

Description for 1924.1252 A-B: 'Two hats worn by Shans in paddy fields in fine weather. Both hats are large straw hats with large multi-coloured tassel on top. A: Some ribbons are broken off, but present. Rim is brittle and broken. B: Water damage on brim.'
