At the time of publication, Richard Bussmann was a Lecturer in Egyptology and Egyptian Archaeology at the Institute of Archaeology, University College London, and head of the project 'The seals and seal impressions from Hierakonpolis', funded by the Gerda-Henkel Foundation, the Alexander von Humbolt Foundation, the Crowther-Beynon Fund and the Mulvey Fund. He researched the MAA collections during visits to the Museum in 2010 and 2011.
